Summits Nearing, Bali Heightens Security

VIVAnews – the 19th ASEAN Summits and East Asia Summit is only a few more days ahead. The event that will be attended by 18 countries will be held from November 17th to 19th or during this weekend.
Security level has been increased. TNI as well as Police personnel have been deployed to tighten the security in Nusa Dua area, the event place which will also be attended by the President of the United States, Barack Obama. TNI and Police personnel are scattered in their posts along the road heading to Nusa Dua.
TNI and Police personnel are wearing their formal uniforms and equipped with complete ammunition. They are standing on the sides of the roads.
According to Bali Deputy Chief Police, Brigjen Pol I Ketut Untung Yoga Ana, this security is a mandatory procedure of TNI and Police. He said that this security measures are for all guests, not just for Obama.
“This is not for anyone. This is a standard procedure according to the universal regulation,” Yoga said, in Nusa Dua, Bali.
America, he said, did not ask for special security for Obama. “But principally, we will give the same treatment to all. The president from any country will receive the same treatment. Moreover, the US security agents did not call for special measures,” he said.
Even though the security level is heightened, Barack Obama will only attend the event for one day, that is, on Nov 19. “Obama will arrive here on November 18. Obama’s meeting here (in Nusa Dua) will be on November 19th," Untung said.
